Carrie Hansen’s journey into the world of design began with a foundation in fashion and retail, later evolving into a passion for creating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. A graduate of the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology, Carrie’s keen eye for style and detail led her to RH Macy’s, where she launched her career in the private label program. In this role, she was instrumental in bringing products from inception to the sales floor, gaining invaluable experience in product development and market strategy.
Her success in the private label division paved the way for a transition into Macy’s retail buying office, where she refined her skills in purchasing and negotiation. These early experiences honed her ability to curate collections, balance design with consumer appeal, and manage the business side of retail—a skill set that would later become essential in her design career.
Seeking a new chapter, Carrie left New York City to start a family and relocated to upstate New York, where she accepted a position with the Marriott Corporation as a Regional Manager of Retail Operations. It was here that her expertise expanded beyond fashion and into spatial design. As part of an elite team, she played a key role in developing a groundbreaking new retail concept for Marriott, earning her the prestigious Pinnacle Achievement Award.
During her time with Marriott, Carrie worked closely with architects and designers, gaining hands-on experience in understanding layout, function, and the relationship between space and design. She became well-versed in how interiors could be both beautiful and purposeful, ensuring that every element—from furniture placement to lighting—enhanced both aesthetics and usability.
As Carrie’s family grew, her passion for design led her to focus on home renovations. Settling in her hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY, she dedicated her talents to restoring and revitalizing historic homes. Her meticulous attention to detail and respect for architectural integrity earned her recognition twice by the Saratoga Springs Historical Foundation for outstanding renovations on historical properties.
Carrie’s work has been featured three times in Maine Home + Design magazine, showcasing her thoughtful approach to renovation. In November 2019, her meticulous restoration of a historic home was highlighted alongside the buyer, emphasizing her attention to detail. In April 2020, Carrie and her daughter, Emily Hamilton, were featured as a design duo, celebrating their transformation of a timeless seaside cottage. Most recently, in July 2022, Carrie’s own Falmouth Foreside home was featured, showcasing a drive-through barn inspired by her time in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Now residing in coastal Maine with her husband, Bruce, Carrie continues to embrace her love for design, drawing inspiration from the region’s natural beauty and historic charm. Her ability to blend style with function continues to influence her work, making her a trusted expert in creating spaces that are as practical as they are visually striking.
